Gold prices were largely steady on Tuesday, retreating from an over six-year peak hit in the previous session, as U.S. President Donald Trump signalled a possible reconciliation with China, calming worries about an escalation in their trade war. Spot gold was up 0.1% to $1,528.10 per ounce, as of 0347 GMT. Gold prices on Monday surged to their highest in more than six years, surpassing the $1,550 mark in early trade, before paring gains after Washington and Beijing indicated a possible thaw in their trade spat. The non-yielding bullion is often seen as a safer investment during times of political and financial uncertainty. U.S. gold futures were up 0.1% to $1,538 an ounce. "Prices are steady because of the conciliatory tone both China and Trump sounded yesterday; the market started to hope that there is some deal coming out of the trade dispute," said Helen Lau, analyst, Argonaut Securities. Low-cost carriers SpiceJet and IndiGo would shift their operations to the Indira Gandhi International Airport's T3 from T2 from September 5. While SpiceJet would shift its entire operations, the largest private carrier IndiGo would move part of their local flights. With rising air traffic and a surge in flight movement from the IGI airport, private airport firm Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) is in the process of upgrading the T2 terminal. "Post completion of capacity enhancement of T2, the terminal will be able to handle 18 million passengers per annum (MPPA), up from current 15 MPPA (now)," DIAL said in a statement. India's largest lender, the State Bank of India, on Sunday said that it is extending the repayment period for stressed automobile dealers by 15-30 days to help them out of current inventory builds-ups due to the slowdown in the sector and in the economy. "Normally, the repayment period is 60 days. So we extend it for 75 days for some dealers and to 90 days for a few others. We are talking to each dealer. We also had meetings with the Federation of Auto Dealers. We are actively engaged with all of them.  "On a case to case basis, whichever dealer has faced any problem on account of excess inventories, we have been working out solutions for all of them," SBI's Managing Director, Retail & Digital Banking, P.K. Gupta said. Sudhir Gharpure and his sales team sat chatting at a big Maruti Suzuki dealership on the outskirts of Mumbai some two hours after its doors were opened on a recent Saturday morning - not a single customer was in sight. "There used to be close to 15-20 bookings each day, but now we're down to 3-5 on good days," said Gharpure, the general manager at the dealership. Gharpure's experience is not an isolated one. Across India dealerships are being pushed out of business and the Indian auto sector is going through its biggest slump in nearly two decades. Spot gold was up 0.2% at $1,427.26 per ounce as of 0322 GMT. The metal hit $1,452.60 in the previous session, its highest since May 2013, before closing 1.5% lower. Gold prices gained on Monday following a steep fall in the previous session as tensions in the Middle East and weaker financial markets supported the metal, while a stronger dollar kept a lid on gains. Mindtree shares fell 14 percent intraday on July 8 as leaders in management resigned after Larsen & Toubro acquired a controlling stake in the company. "Krishnakumar Natarajan, Executive Chairman, N S Parthasarathy, Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer and Rostow Ravanan, CEO and Managing Director have submitted their resignations as members of the board of directors and as employees of the company," the technology services and digital transformation company said in its BSE filing on July 5.
